What is NLP and How Can It Help?

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. So what does that mean then?

Basically it uses research and long-standing knowledge of processes relating to the human mind and body to develop therapeutic techniques to support people to make positive changes to their situation.

The underlying assumptions centre around the capacity for any individual to change their patterns of thinking and responding in order to change the way they experience the world.  It really can help you turn chaos into calm, anxiety into confidence and stress into motivation.

How Does this Work with Children?

NLP4kids therapy techniques have been taken from proven NLP techniques. They have then been developed and adapted to work brilliantly with younger people. This makes the therapy sessions fun and engaging. We don’t spend time dwelling on the problem; as soon as we know what the problem is, we immediately begin to focus on the solution instead.

Like counselling and psychotherapy it is a “talking therapy” but it isn’t focused on the history of the problem. I will explore the problem in a specific way which is designed to increase motivation to change.

In 1-1 therapy sessions I am then able to help the child to understand more about relationships and communication so that they are enabled and empowered to find their own solutions.

I use practical, interactive techniques so that when the work is finished the child has developed an internal tool-kit full of ways to manage their own emotions and make themselves feel better. This is why NLP therapy is really beneficial to promote long term, even life long, change.

How Could NLP  Help My Parenting?

As parents how much time do we spend complaining about our kids? Hearing that others face similar challenges can make us feel better in the short term, but does it really help us change anything?

Parenting coaching offers the space for supported reflection. This allows parents to break down and make sense of their difficulties so they can find their own solutions.

Being a parent can be one of the toughest jobs in the world. The challenges can bring about a lot of feelings which get in the way of being the parent want to be. Just like I do when working with children I work with parents to increase the internal resources they have available when facing those challenges.

A mismatch of communication either between parents or between parent and child is at the root of a lot of difficulties within families.  NLP provides a range of techniques to support the development of our capacity to communicate and understand each other.

Sounds good right?!
